On 21 March 2017, several activities including a meeting in the European Parliament were organized. In addition, the European Headache Alliance have launched a petition to ensure that all Cluster Headache Sufferers in Europe are given a high standard of care.
21 March 2016 marked the launch of the first Cluster Headache Awareness Day, an event aimed to educate and raise awareness of the impact and burden of this headache disorder. The day is supported by the European Headache Alliance, the patient group for headache disorders.
The date of 21 March was chosen since this is the day of equinox. Cluster headache has a strong biorhythmicity, therefore cluster headache patients know this date from which on daytime in Europe will be longer than nighttime which is a relief for at least some sufferers
