Guillain‐Barré syndrome in a patient with antibodies against SARS‐COV‐2

In this paper, the authors report a case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) with onset 2 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection and highly elevated serum antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, supporting an association between SARS-CoV-2 disease and GBS.

In this paper, the authors report a case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) with onset 2 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection and highly elevated serum antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, supporting an association between SARS-CoV-2 disease and GBS. The authors speculate that GBS might have been triggered by humoral immune response against SARS-CoV2 in this patient and that SARS-CoV-2 may trigger GBS through para-/post-infectious disease mechanisms as reported in Zika virus. However, the authors underline that this case report only suggests a possible association between COVID-19 and GBS and more evidence from epidemiologic data supported by immunological studies is required.
